Centre Pompidou-Metz Celebrates its 15th Anniversary: A Major Cultural Event in Metz
The Centre Pompidou-Metz, inaugurated on May 12, 2010, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. In a decade and a half, this flagship museum of modern and contemporary art has become a cornerstone of cultural life in Metz, attracting over 5 million visitors from around the world. This remarkable success further strengthens the city’s appeal and confirms its status as a top destination for cultural events in Metz.
Iconic Architecture Meets Artistic Ambition
Driven by the vision of Jean-Marie Rausch in the 1990s, the Centre Pompidou-Metz stands out with its bold design by Shigeru Ban, whose unique structure was inspired by a traditional Chinese hat. With 5,000 m² of exhibition space, this cultural landmark in the heart of Lorraine now enjoys a national and international reputation.
A Record of Exceptional Exhibitions
Since opening, the museum has hosted over 100 temporary exhibitions. In 2024, it returned to its pre-pandemic attendance levels, welcoming over 308,000 visitors. Among the highlights were exhibitions dedicated to André Masson and Jacques Lacan, which alone attracted nearly 200,000 visitors.
A Must-See Anniversary Exhibition
To mark its fifteenth anniversary, the Centre Pompidou-Metz is presenting a monumental exhibition titled “Endless Sunday”, curated by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and museum director Chiara Parisi. Open through February 2, 2027, this unique show brings together 400 works from the Centre Pompidou’s collection and around forty pieces by Cattelan, offering a powerful artistic reflection on leisure, society, and spirituality.
Key works on display include The Large Nude by Georges Braque, André Breton’s iconic wall of objects, a chess table by Marcel Duchamp, and signature Cattelan pieces like Stadium and L.O.V.E.. This is an unmissable event for all lovers of contemporary art.
