Spotlight on Legal Corner, One of the Key Events at Metz Congrès Robert Schuman

Regularly, our service providers, partners, and clients—without whom it would be impossible to build events—will be honored through short interviews. Today, we shine the spotlight on Myriam Rak Alembik, creator and organizer of the Legal Corner festival.

A Few Questions for Myriam Rak Alembik of Legal Corner

Can you introduce yourself?

I am Myriam Rak Alembik, creator and organizer of the Legal Corner Festival, the very first professional audiovisual event (cinema, TV, platforms) dedicated to the legal issues surrounding films, series, commercials, and documentaries. I also run Fairplay Clearance, a company specializing in audiovisual law.

I founded Fairplay 15 years ago after completing dual training in economics and law. Today, we are a team of 14 with offices in Paris, Brussels, and Madrid.

Can you tell us about your company?

Fairplay specializes in rights clearance, which means obtaining permissions for everything seen or heard in films and series. This includes elements visible in sets (posters, paintings, magazine covers, books, designer furniture), shown on a screen (when characters watch a football match or play video games), or captured in the camera's frame (buildings, statues, sculptures) as well as costumes (logos, brands, licensed costumes).

We locate the authors or rights holders and ensure everything is properly authorized!

As for the Legal Corner Festival, it is the first professional gathering in the audiovisual sector dedicated to legal questions, which are ever-present in films and series.

Over two days, influential figures from iconic companies in the industry discuss, exchange ideas, confront perspectives, and drive progress on pressing issues in the field.

The event has a unique identity, combining an academic vibe (conferences, panel discussions, masterclasses), a convivial atmosphere (networking, discussions, cocktails, lounge area), and festive moments (private concerts, exhibitions, parties, DJ sets).

How long have you worked with Metz Evénements?

This is the second year we have collaborated with Metz Evénements.

After the first edition last year, this second partnership was a natural choice, and we hope to enjoy many more years of close cooperation.

Can you highlight a standout project you’ve worked on?

We are incredibly fortunate (and honored!) to work every year on numerous large-scale French and international projects.

We are involved in many films released every Wednesday in cinemas, as well as TV series for networks or streaming platforms.

We love working on major series like Emily in Paris or Lupin, as much as on feature films such as Emilia Perez or Substance.

Each year, many of the projects we oversee are selected for the Cannes Film Festival or compete for the César Awards, as well as other festivals in France and worldwide.

What can you say about collaborating with the Metz Evénements team?

From the very first year, trust was absolute, and we were able to count on the Metz Evénements team in an extraordinary way.

Event organization is not our core expertise, and being able to rely on their professionalism and support was one of the keys to our success.

At every step, they helped us ask the right questions, think of everything, and ensure nothing important was overlooked. Our gratitude is immense!
